1. About GyanQuest
GyanQuest is a free educational app for children in Classes 1–5 (typically ages 6–11). It is developed and published by Omnispark, an independent studio based in India. The app provides practice questions, progress tracking, and Olympiad preparation across Mathematics, Science, General Knowledge, and English.
GyanQuest is designed to work offline, meaning most features do not require an internet connection. The app contains no advertisements and is completely free to use.
2. Who this policy applies to
This Privacy Policy applies to:
- All users of the GyanQuest Android app
- All visitors to omnispark.in
- Parents and guardians who create accounts on behalf of their children
Because GyanQuest is designed for children, we require a parent or guardian to create and manage any account. Children do not interact directly with account registration or data settings.
3. What information we collect
Information you provide
- Parent or guardian email address — used to create and manage your account and receive account-related communications
- Child's first name and class / grade — used to personalise the learning experience and display progress in the parent dashboard
We do not collect a child's surname, date of birth, phone number, photograph, or physical address.
Information collected automatically
- App usage data — topics practised, questions answered, scores, and time spent. This is stored locally on the device by default and only synced to our servers if you enable cloud backup.
- Crash and diagnostic data — device type, OS version, and app version, collected anonymously to help us fix bugs.
- Anonymous session identifiers — if you use cloud sync, we generate a random ID to associate your progress data with your account. This ID is not linked to any external identity.
We do NOT collect:
- Photos, videos, or audio recordings
- Location data (GPS or network-based)
- Contacts, call logs, or SMS data
- Payment or financial information (the app is free)
- Social media profiles or login credentials from other services
- Behavioural data used for advertising or profiling
4. How we use your information
We use the information we collect only for the following purposes:
- To display your child's learning progress in the parent dashboard
- To personalise practice sessions based on the child's class and past performance
- To diagnose and fix app crashes and technical issues
- To respond to support or privacy requests from parents and guardians
- To send important account-related emails (such as password reset). We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
5. Children's privacy (under 13)
GyanQuest is designed for children and we apply the following protections as required by the Google Play Families Policy and applicable child privacy laws:
- Parental account creation: A parent or guardian must create the account. Children do not go through any registration flow themselves.
- No personal data from children without parental consent: We do not knowingly collect any personal data from a child unless a parent or guardian has provided it during account setup.
- No behavioural advertising: GyanQuest does not display interest-based or behavioural advertisements to any user, including children.
- No social features: Children cannot post publicly, message other users, or share personal information within the app.
- No in-app purchases: The app is entirely free. There are no purchases, subscriptions, or virtual currency systems.
- Parental controls: Parents can review all data stored about their child and request its deletion at any time (see Section 8).
If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that data promptly. Please contact us immediately if you believe this has occurred.
6. Third-party services
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate GyanQuest. Each has been selected for its compliance with children's privacy standards:
- Google Firebase (authentication and crash analytics) — Firebase processes data in accordance with Google's privacy policies. Crash reports sent to Firebase are anonymised and do not contain personal information about children.
- Google Play Services — used for app distribution and core Android functionality. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
We do not use any advertising SDKs, social media SDKs, or analytics tools that build user profiles or track users across apps.
7. Data storage and retention
- Local storage: Quiz progress and scores are stored on your device by default. Uninstalling the app removes this data.
- Cloud storage: If you enable cloud sync, data is stored on secure servers provided by Google Firebase. Firebase infrastructure meets international security standards.
- Retention period: We retain account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days.
- Crash reports: Anonymised crash logs are retained for up to 90 days and then automatically deleted.
8. Your rights as a parent or guardian
As the parent or guardian of a child using GyanQuest, you have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about your child.
- Correction: Ask us to correct any inaccurate information.
- Deletion: Request that we delete your child's account and all associated personal data. We will complete this within 30 days.
- Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw your consent for data processing at any time. This may affect the app's functionality (such as the parent dashboard).
- Grievance: Lodge a complaint with us if you believe your data rights have not been respected (see Section 9 for our Grievance Officer details).
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address in Section 12. We do not charge a fee for these requests and will respond within 30 days.
